Botox® Isn't Just for Women
For years, cosmetic surgery has primarily been targeted at women, but now men are coming to realize the benefits of cosmetic services. Here’s how men can look and feel younger with the help of Botox®.
At DiGeronimo MD Advanced Plastic Surgery in Doral, Florida, Dr. Ernest M. DiGeronimo offers safe, effective Botox for men as well as women. Injectables are conducted by a qualified professional, so you can see great results without worrying about side effects caused by unskilled hands.
Botox basics
Botox is a modified, safe form of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. First used by eye surgeons to paralyze tiny facial muscles to treat lazy eye (strabismus), Botox Cosmetic was eventually approved by the FDA for the treatment of dynamic facial wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles are ones caused by repeated creasing of the skin due to facial expressions, like smiling, frowning, squinting, or sipping through a straw. These are mostly found around the eyes (crow’s-feet), between the brows (vertical worry lines), around the mouth (laugh lines), and around the lips.
These same types of wrinkles can even be found around the jowls, where they combine with static wrinkles caused by loss of collagen and elastin to leave sagging skin. Botox paralyzes the tiny muscles that cause deep creases and wrinkles, allowing your face to look smoother.
Botox only takes a few minutes for each part of your face being addressed. Results take place almost immediately, and can last for weeks or even months. You can return for additional injections as the first round begins to wear off, and make Botiox part of your male skin care routine.
Other ways to address wrinkles and sagging
Deep jowl wrinkles, static wrinkles like horizontal forehead lines and cheek creases, and various other signs of aging can also be addressed by Dr. Digeronimo and his team.
- Static wrinkles can be plumped out with fillers like JUVÉDERM®
- Subdermal fat (double chin) is treated with the injectable KYBELLA®
- Saggy skin at the throat may be remedied with a neck lift
- Droopy or baggy eyelids resolve with upper or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
If you’ve been struggling with your facial appearance, you have plenty of nonsurgical and surgical avenues to choose from.
Some men prefer a less invasive approach than a full facelift and can use Botox, fillers, and minor surgeries to buy time and look younger for extra years. Others can have a facelift, then use Botox as a preventive measure to keep deep lines and wrinkles from reforming, without disrupting your natural facial expressiveness.
